UC San Diego Tennis Camps Assistant Coach Timmer Willing
Timmer Willing enters his seventh year as an assistant coach for the Tritons in 2008-09. He graduated from Truman State University with a degree in Exercise Science and Health Education. Thereafter he took classes at the University of Indiana for Kinesiology. He also received a master's in Teaching-International Relations at the University of San Diego this year.
Prior to coming to La Jolla to coach at UCSD, Willing assisted with the men's and women's tennis programs at Truman State, his alma mater, for two years. Additionally he worked as the Men's Assistant Coach at the University of Indiana for two years after that. During the time at Indiana University, he was a large part of the program which involved the host site of the Big Ten Championships, a first NCAA Qualifier for a doubles team at the NCAA Individual Championships for Indiana losing to eventual champions from Stanford. After leaving the University of Indiana he became the lead coach at the Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, California. As the lead coach at the Weil Tennis Academy, Timmer was the coach and trainer for numerous tour players. His expertise in the sport have helped various players to win national championships and achieve national ranking.
Since he started working as the Men's Assistant Coach for UCSD, he has been a integral part of the coaching staff to constantly improve the level at which the players were performing and raise the bar for future players. Timmer has constantly shown great coaching skills by always having an attitude on the court that encouraged success and confidence. The Tritons have made great improvements in the past several years and were CCAA Champions for six consecutive years. Additionally they were NCAA quarterfinalists for three consecutive, making it as far as the final four in 2007. Timmer hopes to continue coaching tennis in the future to continue and help young individuals reach the highest potential they can.
